Fluid Film Black Rust Proofing Protection – UK Stockist
Rustbuster is pleased to be one of the UK’s first stockists of Fluid Film Black.
Fluid Film Black is a lanolin-based product that lets you treat the underside of your vehicle (or other metal structures) with a non-toxic, non-cracking, attractive black coating for long term protection.
Extracted from sheep’s wool, lanolin is a natural, sustainable, non-toxic product with proven corrosion-busting benefits. The original Fluid Film was a pioneer of lanolin-based technology, developed in World War II to give long-term protection to the US Navy’s fleet. It has since proven itself in industrial, agricultural and automotive applications.
Lanolin-based Fluid Film Black has several benefits:
- Moisture displacement. Lanolin displaces the water by attaching to metallic surfaces, forming a robust anti-corrosive barrier.
- Excellent penetration. The viscosity of Fluid Film ensures that its wet barrier creeps and migrates right into seams and other tight spaces.
- Non-cracking for long-term coverage. A solvent-free formula that never fully dries, so won’t crack or split unlike bitumen-based underseals that contain solvents.
- Allows ongoing inspection. Despite the durability, lanolin-based products can be removed with white spirit to periodically inspect the metal surface for corrosion.
- Penetraton. Heavily corroded and/or frozen parts such as nuts, bolts, shafts, etc. can be salvaged by applying Fluid Film Black.
- Safe to use. Fluid Film Black is non-toxic, non-hazardous to users AND is safe on paint or plastics. (Just avoid coating any rubber parts that are not oil-resistant.)
Surface preparation before application (aerosol and non-aerosol)
For best results before applying Fluid Film Black, prepare the surface by cleaning/degreasing and power washing, wire brush any loose rust away, and treat remaining surface rust with Fe-123 Rust Converter.
Application of Fluid Film Black (non-aerosol)
Thoroughly shake and/or stir first to create a suitable viscosity for application. Ensuring the product is at or above room temperature will also lead to better results.
Thinning isn’t normally necessary, but a small amount of vegetable oil can be added to achieve a thinner consistency.
Apply with a spray gun for best results: Fluid Film Black is not suitable for application with a pump/hand/garden sprayer, even after thinning.
These are Fluid Film’s recommended air pressures:
- With a compressor – 60-80 psi.
- With airless equipment – approximately 2,000 psi.
Rustbuster supplies the following spray guns for use with a compressor:
- Schutz undercoating/injection gun – empty Schutz cans can be bought with this gun.
- Pro Wax undercoating/injection gun – this kit includes a metal cup to hold the wax during spraying.
Coverage of approximately 5 square metres per litre can be expected.
