As a level 2 qualified paint inspector keeping up to date with coatings, systems and specifications is vitally important. In this months Institute of Corrosion’s Corrosion Management magazine a question from reader caught my eye.
Under what types of atmospheric exposure (Other than marine) is it necessary to test for soluble salts before maintenance painting?
Whilst equipment for testing salts can be expensive the cheaper option would be to simply use Rustbuster Chlor-X Salt remover. Do you test for salts? Do you use Chlor-X prior to painting?
Soluble salts can be found inland produced either from nitrates and sulphates from tarffic exhausts or from winter salt gritting.
Always always always use a salt remover in your preparation process.
